Level One taught you to see the reflex. Level Two teaches you to reach the emotion underneath it.

You have a client who has made real progress — better posture, better coordination, better attention. And still there is something you cannot get to. The child who cannot be spontaneous. The one who withdraws, or explodes, or shuts down at the smallest demand. The adult carrying tension in their shoulders that never quite releases, no matter what you try.

This is where BRMT Level Two begins.

What this course is about

Level One worked from the brainstem up — the nerve chassis, the basal ganglia, the cerebellum. Level Two moves into the limbic system, the emotional brain, and its relationship with the prefrontal cortex.

The limbic system is where emotion, memory, motivation, and homeostasis live. When it is not properly linked up — to the brainstem below it and the prefrontal cortex above it — emotions are not well regulated. Feelings become overwhelming rather than informative. The thinking brain and the feeling brain stop working as a unit.

Level Two teaches the rhythmic movements that build that connection, along with the specific reflexes that block it: the Fear Paralysis Reflex, the Moro Reflex, the Tendon Guard Reflex, and the Spinal Perez Reflex.

This is also where the course teaches you to work with what surfaces. Releasing chronic muscle tension releases the emotions held inside it. Practitioners working at this level need to understand why that happens, what it looks like, and how to hold it safely — for their clients and for themselves.

Why this is not taught in Level One

There is a clinical reason these reflexes come second.

The Fear Paralysis and Moro reflexes sit at the root of the body's stress response. Approaching them without preparation does not integrate them — it triggers them. Before this work can be done safely, a practitioner needs to have introduced the movements, established trust and safety, relaxed the central nervous system, and given the client time to build the neurology from brainstem to limbic system to prefrontal cortex.

Level Two is sequenced this way so that clients can release what they are holding at their own rate — when they are ready, willing, and able.

The stress and fear reflexes

Fear Paralysis Reflex — the earliest withdrawal reflex, emerging in the second month after conception. What activates it, why it blocks Moro integration, and how it presents in children as withdrawal, elective mutism, rigidity, and oppositional behavior — and in adults as panic, social phobia, and chronic muscle tension.

Moro Reflex — the reaction to external threat, and the sensory consequences of retention across the visual, auditory, vestibular, tactile, and kinesthetic systems. Its role in PTSD, chronic fatigue, adrenal fatigue, and the constant state of inner stress.

Tendon Guard Reflex — the fight-or-flight pattern directed by the amygdala that replaces the Moro at around four months. How constant triggering produces chronic tension through the legs, hips, spine, shoulders, and neck.

Spinal Perez Reflex — its role in developing the Landau and STNR, and the signs of non-integration: back weakness, thoracic sensitivity, rotated pelvis, restlessness, and difficulty having people behind them.

The prefrontal cortex and emotional regulation

  • The executive functions and their gradual maturation through age 25

  • How the prefrontal cortex exerts downward control over the limbic system — and what happens when it cannot

  • Why stress and retained Fear Paralysis and Moro reflexes disconnect the prefrontal cortex, producing the classic ADHD picture

You will practice every movement and every balance procedure with other participants, under direct instruction, with feedback on rhythm, pressure, and positioning. You will experience the work in your own body — because the more you have done your own work, the more skilled and steady you become as a practitioner.
